Practice Services’ mission is to use the experience of employees and contacts in the medical field to help doctor’s offices improve their collection rate and the overall financial soundness of the practice. The dedicated staff will become an integrated part of the practice rather than simply part of an outside company. This close relationship will help improve collections, reduce turnaround and decrease aging.

Background

Practice Services LLC was formed in 2000 to assist doctors in maximizing cash flow and streamlining their practices. The company’s president, Joel Lane, comes from a strong background as the Practice Administrator for Unibell Anesthesia, the Anesthesia PC for NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital.
With a strong knowledge of the billing process, insurance companies and the medical profession, Practice Services and its dedicated staff were able to quickly prove that they knew more than Anesthesia Billing. With net collections rates near 100% and aging better than MGMA best practice guidelines, the staff has mastered over twenty specialties, while at the same time giving each client the same level of attention as when they only had one. Practice Services now handles the billing for over 100 doctors and a free standing ambulatory surgery center.

Philosophy

Joel Lane has always stated that he hated outside billing companies. Typical billing companies have a reputation to collect the easy money and not make a diligent effort to make sure every penny is collected for the doctors.
Practice Services thinks of itself as an extension of the doctor’s office rather than an outside company. The staff is instructed to diligently follow up every cent owed to the doctor, even though they comment about spending time on the phone for only a small amount that is open on an account. They also work closely with the doctor’s office staff as communication is the key to running a solid practice. Not only do they communicate back advice on the billing operations of the practice and any improvements that could be made from the practice end, but they also keep doctors aware of changes in the industry that may affect them.
While the company has grown since 2000, it still operates as a small company. Each client is treated the same no matter how large a practice and the senior management keeps aware of what is going on with the different accounts.

Inner Workings

Each client is assigned a specific, experienced, account manager at Practice Services. This individual is responsible for the daily work from the practice. They are open to answer any questions that may arise from the doctor or their staff. Depending on the practice size the account managers are assigned assistants who will answer patient inquires, review payments and follow up on past due accounts. This insures that the accounts are promptly followed up and that an individual knows the daily workings of the practice to analyze what is happening, pinpoint any issues and answer any questions.
Each Account Manager is overseen by the management staff of Practice Services to ensure everything is going smoothly and that all open accounts are being followed up in a timely and diligent manner. This allows not only for a double check on what each account manager is doing, but also allows for a bigger picture understanding of issues affecting more than one provider. The management staff is also a simple phone call or email away for any client who has questions, and will even make house calls when needed.
A dedicated staff handles all data entry to make sure the information is entered promptly and filed electronically with the insurance carriers. This allows for a quick turnaround to maximize cash flow.
The whole staff is in one office, so communication flows between staff members. Patient calls are promptly answered or messages promptly returned and doctors can always reach a senior staff member should the need arise. The company is run with the care of a small company, but the experience and manpower of a large one.
